Mancunian Unity bounced back after Wednesday’s frustrating draw with FC United by putting six goals past Darwen FC.
We started our afternoon fast as Georgia Plant slid a low ball into the box which was met by Libby Taylor who poked the ball home, scoring her second in just as many games.
Unity continued their pressure which paid off in the 35th minute when Liz Ince played a first time ball over to Liv Shaw who took the ball inside and curled an effort into the far corner, putting us two to the good at the break.
The girls didn’t take the foot off the gas after the restart only needing six minutes to get their third after a scramble in the Darwen box fell to Charlie Ferguson who fired the ball past the goalkeeper who got a strong hand to the ball, but it wasn’t strong enough.
The boss made changes with our midweek clash against Bury in mind and giving valuable minutes to Charlotte Bagshaw, Ellie Russell, Molly Etchells, Kaylea Cunliffe and Raya Wheeldon.
We hit our fourth goal as we reached the halfway point of the season half when Izzy Kershaw whipped a peach of a ball which was met by Millie Jardine who flicked the ball past the goalkeeper.
Debbie Price was allowed to push on due to changes made and it didn’t take long for her to get herself on the scoresheet. Kaylea slid a beauty of a ball in behind the Darwen defence which Debbie smashed into the bottom corner.
We weren’t finished there, in the dying moments Liz Ince finally got her goal after a great corner from Millie Jardine was met by our number eight which topped off a great performance.
Unity ended the day second in the North West Women’s Regional Football League just two points behind Bolton. Our focus now turns to Wednesday when we travel away to a tough Bury side.
